Communications System Engineer (w/m/d)

The Communications Systems Engineer will hold a technical role within KLEO and involved primarily in advanced communications systems architecting and design. The successful candidate will be responsible for undertaking communications systems engineering tasks to support the company’s operational and pre-sales activities; analysis, monitoring, and mini project management as part of the responsibilities below. They will actively interface between Engineering, Regulatory, and Commercial teams and international technical partners to ensure that the system design fulfills the company’s service delivery objectives respectively.

Main Responsibilities

  • Support system requirement definition and R&D activities for the design of space and ground-based communication systems
  • Use of advanced operational engineering tools within satellite and communications systems, including RF and digital communications
  • Development of specifications for operational needs and procurement of adequate design and analysis toolkits for modelling and simulation of end-to-end system performance
  • Support working groups, consisting of internal and external partners, to develop the baseline standards in signal protocols and networking approaches
  • Support user terminal design and development
  • Communications Payload Engineering:
    o Link budget analysis
    o Support R&D activities for SDRs and Digital Payload systems
    o Support interfacing and R&D activities for space-based optical communication terminals
    o System modelling and interference analysis
    o Coordination with Comms Payload manufacturers
  • Operational planning:
    o Design and implementation of control systems, operational software, and toolkits to monitor and enhance operational efficiency
    o Signal performance maintenance, incident management and troubleshooting
    o Preparation of operations documentation
  • Provide technical consultancy services to Commercial team to support sales, pre-sales, and application development

    Skills and Qualifications

  • Require advanced degree in a related field (i.e. Electrical Engineering)
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in satellite communications systems engineering with knowledge in payload engineering and air interface communications standards
  • Proficiency in link budgeting
  • Practical knowledge of systems engineering and manufacturing practices
  • Confidence in working directly with potential customers, suppliers and subcontractors
  • Experience developing systems documentation, requirements, test plans and procedures, and operational procedures
  • Ability to work independently and effectively, co-coordinating tasks and responsibilities
  • Strong analytical and excellent organizational skills
  • Excellent communications and inter-personal skills (written and verbal)
  • Fluency in English, other languages (particularly German and Chinese) considered an asset
  • Willingness to travel overseas
    Desirable skills
  • Practical experience in the commissioning and testing of communication systems – satellite and ground based
  • Business awareness and acumen
  • Solid programming/software engineering skills with good knowledge of MATLAB, Visual Basic, python and Java programming environments
